π Etsy Developer Integration
Why Postia needs Etsy API permissions and how we handle data responsibly
πͺ Etsy Developer Integration Overview
This page explains why Postia needs Etsy API access and how we handle seller data responsibly and compliantly.
π Overview of Postia
Postia is a productivity tool designed to help Etsy sellers promote their existing listings more efficiently on Pinterest.
Postia Does NOT:
- β’ Create, modify, or delete Etsy listings
- β’ Upload images to Etsy
- β’ Manage orders or customer data
- β’ Use AI to alter Etsy content
Postia Simply:
- β’ Imports listing information (title, description, images)
- β’ Helps users generate Pinterest content
- β’ Schedules posts to Pinterest
- β’ Drives traffic back to Etsy shops
Currently, users import products via CSV files and manual shop search. Direct Etsy integration would make this experience seamless.
π Why We Need Etsy API Access
We are requesting access ONLY to:
Read Listings (Production Scope)
- β’ Retrieve a seller's active listings
- β’ Retrieve listing details (title, description, URL, price, images, tags)
- β’ Retrieve shop metadata
Why This Matters:
Postia needs this to allow Etsy sellers to:
- Select which of their listings they want to promote on Pinterest
- Automatically populate the pin link field with their real Etsy URL
- Ensure that generated Pinterest content stays accurate and compliant
𧩠What Postia Does With Etsy Data
We DO:
- Display listings in the user's private dashboard
- Allow users to select items to generate Pinterest pins
- Use listing titles/descriptions for promotional text
- Use listing images to create Pinterest graphics
- Link Pinterest pins back to Etsy listings
We Do NOT:
- Write or update listings
- Track, store, or access customer data
- Perform automated activity on Etsy
- Scrape or misuse Etsy data
- Pass data to external parties
All Etsy data is visible only to the authenticated shop owner and used exclusively for promoting their own products.
π¦ Current Method (Without Etsy API)
Right now, users must import products using these manual methods:
1. CSV Upload
- β’ User exports CSV from Etsy
- β’ User uploads it to Postia
- β’ Postia parses and displays products
2. "Search in Etsy Shop" URL Method
- β’ User enters a shop search URL
- β’ Postia extracts product URLs from the page
- β’ User must confirm products manually
β Why This Is Not Ideal
- CSV exports confuse new sellers
- Users make mistakes editing spreadsheets
- Some products don't import correctly
- Etsy's search-URL format may change
- Creates friction and poor onboarding experience
π― What Etsy API Integration Will Enable
β Smooth Product Import
No CSV uploads, no URLs β just a clean, native "Connect Etsy Shop" button.
β Reduce User Errors
Data is correct and up-to-date directly from Etsy.
β Enable Future Features
We may explore optional listing-creation tools in the future, if Etsy approves additional scopes. Currently, we request READ-ONLY access only.
π Data Handling & Privacy
Postia follows strict privacy and API compliance:
- No sharing or reselling of data
- No public access to Etsy listing data
- All data is tied ONLY to the authenticated shop
- Users can disconnect Etsy at any time
- Full GDPR compliance support
- OAuth is used for secure authentication
We use only the minimum data required to let sellers promote their own products on Pinterest.
π Summary
Postia is a tool that helps Etsy sellers drive traffic to their Etsy listings through Pinterest. We only need read-only listing data to make the product-import experience seamless and accurate. Our goal is to simplify Etsy sellers' workflow and help them increase visibility and salesβwithout altering or interfering with their Etsy shop operations in any way.
